How Do I Find The Right Coach?

These days it seems like every third person on Instagram is a coach of something. Life coaches, business coaches, weight loss coaches, financial and budgeting coaches etc . It can be incredibly difficult to decide what you need. On top of that, it’s difficult to decide which coach is the right one for you?

Last week I shared a blog and vlog identifying the four main reasons you need a life coach. So if you know you need a coach the next question is how to find the right coach? Let’s talk about the steps to finding a coach that fits you and your needs.

1.    Determine what you need. Some people confuse therapy and coaching. Therapy has a past orientation, helping you understand why you are the way you are. Coaching is often more future-oriented. Coaches are often able to be therefore more accountability on the journey as well. So what is it that you need support with? Are you looking for support with starting a business? Are you looking for support with healing some trauma? Are you looking for a way to lose weight or save money? Depending on what you need that will determine the type of coach you should hire. I have a friend who hired a spiritual coach but wanted to start a business. Her coach was very supportive in helping her grow spiritually, but unfortunately could not help her grow her brand. This led to a lot of frustration and ultimately bitterness about what coaching was. It wasn’t until I was able to share the importance of identifying the importance of determining her focus area and hiring a coach according to that. Then she was able to get the RIGHT support and make the progress she desired.
2.    Research coaches. Social media is your best friend in this way. Now don’t let followers and likes confuse you because to be real some people can buy that. Pay attention to their consistency and if you like what they discuss. Are they sharing what you already know or ground break life-changing things? Do you resonate with their style? Does their approach repel or attract you ? What works for someone else may not work for you and that's okay. You have to find what works for you.
3.    Narrow down to 3 coaches. It can be incredibly difficult to discern which life coaches are high - quality coaches and which ones are just trying to make money. Take time to review their packages, outcomes and client testimonials. Feeling inspired and motivated is a wonderful feeling, but how does that translate into measurable and tangible results? It’s great that they are saying that they get client 's results, but what are their clients saying? Lastly, see if they offer a free consultation. Most life coaches do. If they do consider signing u for one to get an even better feel for what it would look like for you to work with them.

4.    Budget for it- notice I didn’t say find one on your budget. You will always get what you pay for. Often when we try to make our purchases fit what we think we want to pay. Instead, we should be budgeting for the results we want. Do not try to short change your growth and development. Coaching is a big investment, and you want to ensure that it provides a strong return.

Your BIG Dreams...you deserve those. Take a step in the direction of what you desire today...
