How to Forgive Yourself

The definition of forgiveness is the conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person/ group who has harmed you regardless of whether they actually deserve it.

We are all human and we will all make choices or do things in our life that we aren’t proud of. For most people this becomes a major point of contention. For others they are able to learn from their mistake and move forward. Those who are able to forgive have more peace and less stress.
While on a conscious level we can recognize that forgiveness is imperative, making it happen is a totally different story.

But there are consequences to being unforgiving. I once heard that when we hold on to unforgiveness it’s like drinking poison. That’s exactly what happens when we choose not to forgive ourselves. We are poisoning our bodies. And I say “choose not to” because ultimately forgiveness is a choice.
While moving forward and forgiving yourself is one of the hardest things you may ever have to do, but it’s the most important if you ever want to let go of the heavy weight of anger, resentment and bitterness.
