Napkinify Your Course

Creating a course is a challenge, but then you have the pressure to determine what all should be included and what shouldn’t.

I am easily convinced that I have to include a single aspect. For example, when I created my book writing Bootcamp course I tried to put everything in there all the way down to building a website. While that is somewhat related to writing a book the sole focus of my course is book writing and the course should never become a one-stop-shop for every part.

When I first began my course creation journey I accidentally came across a YouTube video from a coach named Courtney who shared an amazing business strategy that I have adopted into my course creation process.

Let’s call it the napkin course layout approach, but basically you're simplifying your course creation process.

You’re probably wondering what does a napkin have to do with creating a course so hear me out…

Let’s imagine you’re sitting at a restaurant with you’re closest friend and they hear you’re creating a course and want to know more about it. You decide you wanna tell them, in fact, you have so much to share but you have no clue how to sum it. So you pull out the drink napkin and begin to write down what the course teaches your learners.

That napkin layout is the summary of your course and what you will use to begin to organize your course. Nothing more nothing less.

Essentially your summary and layout should not be overwhelming but it also shouldn’t be underwhelming and the napkin approach lets you determine where you fall.

It is also a great tool to hold on to because when it's time to launch and promote your course you have a very simple way to explain what your learners will get by joining the course.

So today I challenge you to pull out a napkin at your table and play out this scenario. See where your mind leads you and begin to create from that place!
