4 Steps To Finding Your Next Client

As a coach in the beginning stages sometimes it can become extremely overwhelming to determine how to get new clients and how to connect with the right people. You’re not alone if you’re feeling overwhelmed, but the good news is you don’t have to try to figure it out all on your own. I will share four simple steps that you can take to get in front of the right people to increase your income and impact!

The first thing you need to do is determine who your ideal client is. If you’re trying to serve everyone you’re actually going to serve no one. So determine who it is that you want to support.

  • Male or female?

  • Age?

  • Relationship status?

  • Employment status ?

  • Are they a parent ?

  • What is their biggest pain point?

  • What are they seeking from you?

After you have narrowed down your ideal client your next step is to determine where they are - The biggest mistake that coaches make is to either try to be in too little or too many places at once. Your job as a coach figure out where your one person is. Is your one person at your local church? Or is your one person at the local rec center? Is your one person on Instagram? Twitter? Facebook? Where do your people hang out? The quicker you can determine where they hang out the sooner you can begin to show up there as well.

Next you will need to determine what they need - as soon as you figure out where they hang out now your job is to dig deep and determine what it is that they need. This is also known as market research. Really this is your opportunity to determine what their pain points struggles and setbacks are. You can do this by watching the things that they share online, by tuning in to listen to the things that they discuss or by interviewing them and asking them questions and for feedback. The more you know about your ideal client the more you can deliver in a way that actually positively impacts them.

Deliver accordingly - once you’re able to figure out what it is that they need and where they’re struggling, your job is to show them you’re capable of offering this. Sometimes we try to over complicate this process and deliver all the things. But your job is just to deliver that one thing. So for example if you’re working with people that went through a divorce your job is not to deliver financial support, legal support as well as parenting support. Your job is to figure out their biggest pain point, the thing they want to support with and deliver that.

It’s important to understand that delivery is more than just sales. Delivery is about service as well. So don’t just ask for the sale take time to engage, communicate and get to know them and determine how you can serve them best. After you build rapport, and show your expertise it becomes a lot easier to ask for the sale.

Becoming a coach was probably one of the best choices that I’ve ever made. Now don’t get me wrong it’s not always easy nor is it always glamorous. But what I can say is I’ve learned a lot of lessons on this journey. And one thing I’m extremely passionate about is not keeping other people stuck in the trenches. I don’t want them to have to blaze the trail alone they can use the path is already set ahead of them.
