How to overcome shiny object syndrome as a Coach
In the coaching space it's easy and tempting to compare your business, clients and offers with everyone. The trouble with that is it can cause you to get thrown off and also lose track with the value you bring to your audience.
I find that many coaches get shiny object syndrome because they do not have the clarity, or confidence to focus on their greatest strengths.
Then in turn when you feel unaligned or frustrated this can cause your focus and in turn your revenue to slip. Then before you know it you're struggling with shiny object syndrome.
Let's be honest with the online space being a big part of coaching now its eacy to get distracted by shiny objects. Every.single.day you are looking at new coaches, new offers, new content which can entice you to fall victim to shiny object syndrome.
Today I want to talk about how to avoid shiny object syndrome as a coach
1. Get accountability- Its easy to feel like you have all the time in the world to balance all things, but if you are putting the wrong things on your plate none of that will matter. So get accountability to ensure you're staying on track. I always say the best coaches have coaches. Coaches can help you remember your focus, follow through with tasks and give you that extra motivation and push thats sometimes hard to give to yourself.
2. Say no to what isn't an obvious "yes"- If you say yes to everything I promise this will eventually lead to burnout. Sure there are a million different things you will want to do, and if you have an undefined root center (based on your human design) you may even find yourself trying to rush and do all the things. What I challenge you to do is say "no" to everything that is not an obvious yes. This helps to ensure you stay in your lane and focused on the best things you have to offer your audience. The best way to do this is to keep your focus front and center because this will give you a clear path to follow and a blueprint to keep you on track.
3. Go back to your goals- It is so important to know exactly what it is that you want. The more certain you are the more clarity you will have. Is the video, technique, certification etc aligned with your big picture goals. It's easy to lose track of your big picture goals, but when you have to make decisions its important to go back to them to make the most aligned decisions.
4. Stop comparing yourself to others- I found for me when on my coaching journey every other coach had the best branding, the best clients, the best program etc. This was because I had a severe lack of trust in myself. When I leaned into my authenticity and my gifts it helped me to feel more confident that my brand, coaching style etc. should be unique and different. If you find yourself struggling with comparison, take a social media break and get back in touch with why you began this business, and why you are the one called to do it. This always keeps me on track with my purpose. By becoming aware of your shiny object syndrome you will notice you're more distracted and this can cause you to get way off track. I challenge you to get clear on the outcome you want and where your focus will be. Use these steps to help you do that. All in all we all fall victim to shiny object syndrome at one point or another, but now you have the tools you need to ensure the shiny object syndrome becomes something of your past.
