What is it called?

In the coaching space there are so many terms being thrown around that it can be so confusing about what means what. In today’s blog I am going to give you a description of each !

Let’s begin with the difference between a mastermind, group coaching program and a course!

Courses and group coaching programs were created in order to teach people something and to be able to access people from all over the world. The goal is to teach them something:

  • New

  • Valuable, and

  • Impactful

With the course and group coaching program you can deliver information to your students to

take and implement into their own lives or businesses.

A group coaching program has content, structure, curriculum, and coaching from the person facilitating the program. This typically consists of people traveling in a cohort format through the program .

A course on the other hand can be delivered on demand or gone through at your own pace. A course is a hub in which information is shared on a specific subject (money mindset, business, writing a book etc.)

Courses are usually hosted through a learning management system (I.e. kajabi, teachable, thinkific), in which students can view their course syllabus, the modules and academic progress, as well as communicate with other students and their instructor.

Both routes should have tangible takeaways, practical action steps, and support (this could include but it’s not limited to a workbook, activities, coaching calls, online community, or check-ins) as you apply the learning materials to your life.

A mastermind is a group of like minded people who “mastermind” aka share ideas to bring forth a power of creativity and support. A true mastermind is made by those in the group. They are committed to one another. A group coaching program is a group of people who come together to learn a subject or curriculum and receive coaching from the coach. A mastermind has no content. The coach is a facilitator; the one who attracts the right people into the group.

One on one coaching - Private coaching requires more personalized attention and more of your time. This is catered to the client and their needs. It can be supplemented with workbooks or trainings as you see fit.

What’s the difference between a masterclass, webinar and workshop?

For me when I host webinars they are free. Here I am typically sharing steps they can avoid & then they go off and do it on their own.

Trainings and masterclasses are often used interchangeably. I usually use this instead of the word webinar because that sounds corporate focused. Masterclasses are specialty classes in which the learning objectives take place through in-depth practice paid with detailed instruction.

The word “webinar” is a mix of the phrase “web-based seminar.” The webinar topic is supposed to be closely aligned with whatever the host is selling.

Workshops are usually paid because The host/ coach etc is walking you through the work . In addition to guiding you they are giving room for feedback. For example, I recently hosted a workshop on tapping and I helped the attendees walk through and tap on their own. I also talked about creating scripts etc.

Ultimately when you’re presenting remember you’re a master and people are looking at you as the authority! You get to use these platforms as the chance to showcase your expertise and let people know how they can work with you.
