Do you need a coach to write your book?

Writing a book is a huge yet admirable goal. Research says that 81% of people want to write a book, but less than 3% actually go forward and actually write their book. There is a reason this happens....book writing is hard work. Gone are the days when an aspiring author could just WOW people with their words/story. Now as an author you have to know your audience, write to them, market accordingly and stay super relevant and visible
Needless to say without a plan or direction this process can feel overwhelming and in turn not worth it.
In 2016, I set out to write a book. I could hardly contain my excitement, but much like all new goals that excitement wore off after some time and the goal seemed further and further out of reach. Some how I kept going, but if I am being honest, my writing was not my best quality and when I published everything confirmed that. After weeks of publishing my book was hardly making sales (excluding my family who loved me, and my friends who wanted to pacify me) and I was crushed.
I was seeing all of these successful authors online and I could not figure out how to make that happen for me. I decided to go after it again, this time with help. And this time EVERYTHING changed!
I was able to publish in half the time it took before, I wrote a second book during that same amount of time, I hit best selling author with both books on the same day and I created an entire business from my book. It was life changing literally.
You see the biggest mistake I made on this journey was believing that I had to do this all alone. Truthfully what I was thinking was "how hard can this really be" and "that's what google is for"
But let me tell you google does have information, but who is to say which is accurate and what part is misleading, and if you google everything under the sun you like end up with information overload and then become more confused than when you began.
I want to share the top three benefits of hiring a coach to support you on the journey
1. Accountability- have you ever set a goal and then fallen off the next day? Yup we all have. Even though we may include friends and family there is nothing like having additional support from someone who can push you past your comfort zone. When you're writing a book it is going to take sacrifice, dedication and consistency- most of these are skills that we need a little bit of support and accountability with. I learned that having accountability from someone else will take you much farther.
2. Direction and Support- Everyone tries to jump on the DIY bandwagon it can be tempting to think that you can write, publish and market a best seller yourself. There are a ton of ins and outs with the book writing process. It is so much bigger than simply writing a book. And if you miss some of the important aspects it can negatively impact the entire experience. So why waste your valuable time trying to google and piece together information when you can have some who has blazed the trail before you show you the way. Do not try to reinvent the wheel. There is a reason that most authors have more than one published book. It's because they have figured it out. There is also a reason that so many people want to write a book, but don't- it's because they haven't figured out how to make it happen. Do not get yourself caught up in the cycle.
3. They keep you relevant- writing and publishing is just the beginning part of your author journey, but the biggest misunderstanding people have is that they believe that when they finish their book they are done. What is you big goal with your book? To change lives, make money, get speaking engagements? Whatever it may be you have to continue to let that book "live on" getting a coach can help you to keep your goal relevant by giving you the tools and strategies you need to go after that goal and reach it.
