How to create a profitable coaching program

For many coaches, the thought of creating a profitable signature coaching program is enough to make your head spin. It can seem like a lot of work and a lot of risk! But with the right steps and the right mindset, you can create the program that will bring you more clients and more money.

Choose a signature program focus.

The first step in creating your signature program is choosing a focus. The focus of a group program is the main topic you are going to teach and work on with your participants. For example, if you want to teach people how to improve their fitness level, then this would be the main focus of your group program. You can choose whatever topic area interests you; just make sure it’s something that will resonate with others who might want or need what they can learn from your program.

You may already have an idea in mind for a specific area that would make an excellent signature programming focus but if not we've got some ideas:

  • Weight Loss & Healthy Eating - This could include meal plans and recipes as well as tips on how to manage stress through healthy eating habits.

  • Mindfulness & Stress Relief - A mindfulness course is hugely popular at the moment thanks to its ability to help people relax when life gets busy or stressful so this could be one of the most profitable options as well as being fun too!

  • Business- Learning to build a profitable business online is a topic many people want to learn and the ability to streamline their process is definitely attractive.

The goal is to find a focus area that is profitable. For example you could be uber passionate about hiking boots- but building an entire course without gauging the interest could make creating the course be done in vain.

Get clear on your target market.

One of the foundational steps to building your signature coaching program is to establish clarity on who you're serving and how you can help them. To get clear on your target market, start by asking yourself:

  • Who are you trying to serve?

  • What are their challenges and goals?

Understand what you're selling.

First, you need to understand what you’re selling. What is the value of your coaching program?

Who are your ideal clients and how will they benefit from participating in your signature program?

How will they feel after they finish the program?

It’s also important to consider why what you’re selling is unique. There are a million courses out there on budgeting, building a business, having a blended family and the like. None of the courses that are out have your spin. With creating your signature offer your authenticity is your greatest asset. So leverage that. Consider how your process STANDS OUT and be sure to weave that not only into your program, but also into your marketing.

People - who are you serving ?

Problem - what are you helping them with? What are their pain points ?

Position - what makes your perspective, process or approach unique ?

What do you bring the table that’s different

Profit - the solution aka how you pull it together and profit from it

When you combine the 3P’s it’s inevitable to profit!

Focus on the benefits.

When you're creating your program, make sure that it's focused on the benefits. You need to show the customer why they should invest in your program. Focus on what they will get out of it and how their life will improve through using your product or service.

Here are some examples:

  • "I can help you save time by taking care of all the marketing for your business."

  • "I'll help you create a sales funnel so that you don't waste money on ads that don't work."

  • “You will lose the last 10 postpartum pounds in only 60 days”

  • "My coaching program will teach you how to attract clients who pay well and love working with coaches like yourself."

Don't be afraid to make changes.

You’re not married to your course as is. So if something isn’t working don’t be afraid to make changes that you see is necessary.

The advice you give is only as good as the feedback you get. A coaching program is a two-way street, so don't be afraid to ask for feedback as you build it. Your clients are paying for your expertise, so take advantage of their experience and knowledge by asking them questions at each step in the process.

Change takes courage—more than that even: it takes trust in yourself and those around you who care enough about your success to tell you when something isn't working or may need improvement.

With most of my courses I build as I go. I will usually have 1-2 modules created so that I am always one step ahead. This allows me to structure my course to my clients needs and to really be able to facilitate amazing transformations. I also regularly go back and make changes to all of my courses as I continue to grow, learn and expand.

Decide on your pricing

In the same way that you might have a pricing strategy, the same is true for your signature coaching programs. When it comes to creating a profitable signature coaching program, there are two things that you need to consider:

  • What should my price be?

  • How do I differentiate myself from my competition?

I always say price between resentment and ridculousness. I explain more in my YouTube Video here: the best way to price your offers as a coach.

Conclusion

Signature coaching programs are a great way to build your business and attract clients. They can be used as an opportunity to offer more than just one-on-one coaching but also provide tools, resources and support for your clients in their journey of self-discovery. These programs can be beneficial for coaches who want to make more money.
