Mindset Coaching
Coaching is the second fastest growing industry next to IT and we all know how fast IT is growing. While coaching is a broad term it's important to note that there are various types of coaching- Business, life, corporate, success, health, and even mindset coaching.
If you're not familiar with mindset coaching lean in...
Mindset coaching focuses on on clients' existing beliefs and patterns of thinking with the goal of reframing the thoughts and beliefs to in turn change the outcome.
Mindset Coaching works well for those who are open to making positive, permanent changes in their life and understand that they already have everything they need inside of them and are looking for support to pull it out. Working with a mindset coach requires vulnerability, commitment, being open to stepping out of your comfort zone and the willingness to embrace the coaching process.
While mindset coaching has gotten a lot of attention as of lately, I am a firm believer that all coaching should involve a level of mindset.
When I started my business I honestly was convinced that mindset coaching was too "out there" and "woo-woo". So I spent YEARS investing in support (not including mindset), strategies and systems. And what I learned the hard way is that you could have all of the systems, strategies and support in the world, but if your mind is not aligned none of that would matter.
I then decided to invest in a mindset coaching program and I remember clearly having so much resistance, but I knew at that point that I had tried what felt like everything and I knew there had to be more to life than what I was experiencing.
Little did I know that, the one buy button would be the gateway to shift that would not only transform my life, but my success as well.
This is why I am such a BIG advocate for mindset. It's truly so transformational. I talk a lot about this on my Instagram as well!
A question that I often get is why would someone hire a mindset coach?
Here is a crazy fact that most people don't know. Your subconscious mind is more powerful than you can imagine. It makes up around 95% of your brain power and handles everything your body needs to function properly, from eating and breathing to digesting and making memories
When I learned about the power of my mind my entire life changed and this is why I am so passionate to teach others all about it as well. I honestly feel like it’s a crime that we don’t learn this in grade school! We all have minds why can’t we learn how to leverage them appropriately? Your life is a direct reflection of your mind.
While this is something you may have heard, wrapping your mind around it is something totally different. Here is a graphic we study in depth inside of The ELEVATE Method, which I think simplifies it all very well.
The premise of this graphic is that external events are simply data that have no meaning at all, but after going through our filters we in turn perceive it consciously as our reality.
Each experience we have comes in and is filtered through our five senses. What we see, what we hear, what we touch, smell, and taste. This is known as visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory, and gustatory.
Once we bring in information we either delete, distort, or generalize the information. Because we are taking in billions of bits of information our mind then groups that data into about seven chunks of information. Mathematically, what this means is that what we call “reality” is constructed from only 0.006% of all of what is taking place in any given moment, because the other 99.994% of that data was deleted, distorted and generalized.
This is why the premise of NLP is that perception is your projection. Simply put, what you believe about yourself, your vision and your goals is exactly what you will achieve.
If you notice that you're being plagued with limiting beliefs or recurring thought patterns which you know are holding you back from achieving your goals getting support with reprogramming your mind can be more transformational than you can imagine.
What makes mindset coaching so special?
Mindset Coaches are typically certified in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), TimeTechniques, EFT, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) or Hypnosis. Sometimes they are certified in a combination of all of the above.
Where mindset coaching differs, is that a mindset coach works with clients to uncover the beliefs, blocks, behaviors, habits and patterns of thinking that prevent them from living the life or creating the business they desire.
In addition, they will often pair this with traditional coaching strategies- such as marketing, sales, social media and the like.
Have you ever wished you had an owners manual for your mind? We buy cars, tv’s, furniture etc and they all come with a users manual. It helps us put it together, it helps us keep it in tip top shape and it helps us to know what we are doing.
You can have access to this for your mind through NLP- Neuro linguistic programming which is one of the most effective ways to not only learn about your mindset, but also learn how to leverage it!
Your subconscious mind is a super computer. It is the powerful secondary system that runs everything in your life. Here are Prime Directives of the Unconscious Mind. In 1915 Freud highlighted the fact that the unconscious mind governs behavior to a greater degree than people suspect. So understanding these will help you to use your mind in a way that works in your favor. Also you will finally be able to understand what you're mind is capable of and set your mind to it!
1. Preserves the body- In addition to keeping us physically safe the unconscious mind keeps us psychologically safe too.
2. Runs the body-Has a blueprint of body as it is now, and of the body in perfect health
3. Stores memories- Your unconscious mind is a massive supercomputer with almost unlimited storage capacity, every experience you’ve ever had is stored at acellular level across the entire body. It is stored via Temporal (in relationship to time) and atemporal (not in relationship to time)
4. Is the domain of the emotions-This is where your emotions are stored and organised. Any processing of emotions happens here, which is why when we try to use our conscious mind for this we usually struggle.
5. Organizes all memories- Uses a Gestalt on the timeline. your brain separates out the component parts of information and stores them in different places according to sound, look, feel, taste, smell etc
6. Represses memories with unresolved negative emotions- Our unconscious mind is most concerned with your well being, and so may decide to keep negative emotions suppressed. This is because it may decide that the cost of bringing them into your consciousness may be too harmful
7. Presents repressed memories for resolution- Your subconscious will only present them for a resolution when it feels that you are in a good place to deal with it and readyTo release emotions
8. Is symbolic-The unconscious mind is symbolic as it attaches shapes and symbols to states. This is why metaphors are so powerful.
9. Takes everything personally-you may have heard of the concept perception is projection, a concept developed by Carl Jung who describes the concept as follows: what you perceive in other people is what you are project onto them
10. Works on the principle of least effort-Takes the path of least resistance. This is a common law in physics and your unconscious mind is no different, if there is a simple way to deliver the result you want, then your unconscious mind will find it and use it.
11. Does not process negatives- When you say things in a negative aspect your subconscious mind will not hear that and can actually be more detrimental. So for example if you say I don't want debt, all your subconscious mind registered was "debt". Asking for what you want rather than what you don’t want is the key to mastering this.
12. May keep the repressed emotions repressed for protection- The unconscious mind may keep negative emotions repressed, and may never present them for a resolution if it decides that this is the best for your well being.
13. Is a highly moral part of you- The morality you were taught and accepted. Throughout our lives we are influenced in many different ways and this shapes our values and beliefs which are of the utmost importance to the unconscious mind.
14. Enjoys serving, needs clear orders to follow- When you’re having self-talk, you have to be very careful what you tell your unconscious mind as it’s only concerned with delivering the results you ask for. If you say you want more money when you find a penny it will think "job well done". This is why it is important to be clear.
15. Controls and maintains all perceptions- Both regular and telepathic, and transmits them to the conscious mind
16. Generates, stores, distributes and transmits all “energy”. The truth is we are all full of a ton of energy which we don't often tap into, but it's there as potential. It's important to understand that you can change your energy levels with a single thought.
17. Maintains instincts and generates habits- Anything you can set on autopilot that helps you achieve your goals has got to be a good thing. So its important to create habits that serve your success.
18. Needs repetition until a habit is installed- the more you do something the more likely it is to become a habit this works with the subconscious mind. There is a saying neurons that fire together wire together (the quicker, the better).
19. Is programmed to continually seek more. The reality is that there is always more to discover and your subconscious is seeking to find that. This is why asking powerful questions and journaling can be so impactful.
20. Functions best as a whole integrated unit. The unconscious mind works best when everything is in alignment. Integrity is important within our system, both in terms of our physical integrity and integrity of our thoughts.
I challenge you to become familiar with these prime directives. When you do you will be able to achieve a new level of self-awareness in literally everything you do. If you’re wondering how to not only personally apply these premises, but to also weave it into the work that you do becoming a mindset coach may be the next best step for you. In becoming a mindset coach you will be able to facilitate change that goes deeper, lasts longer and happens faster. It’s such a powerful field of practice.
