You want to become a coach: Here's what you need to know

Introduction

Coaching is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It's a way to develop tools and techniques that work for you and your unique needs. A coach can help you navigate the ups and downs of life, but it's up to you to create lasting change within yourself. Here are some things I've learned from my own coaching journey:

Coaching is part of a bigger conversation.

Coaching is a conversation, and it's one that's always evolving. It's not something you do once and then move on to the next thing—it's an ongoing relationship between coach and client. And though it can be intimidating when you're new to coaching, this is actually a great thing! To me, it means that every coaching session has the potential for something new to come up; every session gives us both an opportunity for growth and learning.

That said: how does one get started? One way to start your own coaching practice is by reflecting back on your own experiences as a student or employee in order to develop skills as a coach yourself—there’s no substitute for experience! You might also consider reaching out through social media or networking events (like those offered by ICF) in order to build connections with other coaches who may be able to offer insight into their work practices or provide opportunities for further training.

Everyone is at a different place in their journey.

As a coach, it's important to be flexible and adaptable. The way you work with one client may be completely different than the way you work with another. This can be due to a variety of factors: the personality of your client, their goals and interests, where they are in their life journey, and so on. As an experienced coach who has worked with many clients over many years, I've found that there are certain styles and tools that work better for some than others. For example, some people prefer an interactive approach while others need more structure in order to stay focused on their goals. There's no right or wrong answer—as long as it works for everyone involved!

Regardless of what type of coaching relationship you have with your clients (whether it's 1-to-1 or group), coaches need to adapt themselves based on each individual situation—and this applies both ways! It's not just about adapting our style according to the client; we also need to remember our own needs at times too! When coaching others we often find ourselves taking on new challenges or situations we haven't faced before--such as having someone cry into your chest during a session (yes this happened). And when working within groups there will always be differences between members which may require additional effort from yourself in order to keep everyone happy!

A positive attitude will get you far.

You may be thinking, "What do I need a positive attitude for? I'm not the one out there coaching!" While it's true that your team is the one guiding clients through their workouts and helping them reach their goals, it's important to remember that they look up to you as an example of what they can achieve. They will look to you for guidance or inspiration when they're feeling down; and if you are always in a bad mood or complaining about something, then they'll start seeing negativity as an acceptable response.

On top of that, people who have more positive attitudes tend to be happier overall and report higher levels of satisfaction with their lives. A positive attitude is also associated with better health: studies show that happy people are less likely to develop mental health problems like anxiety disorders later on in life than those who aren't as enthusiastic about their day-to-day routines (and this applies regardless of whether or not those individuals were born happy).

Invest in yourself, but don't overdo it.

By now, you've probably heard that not only is it important to invest in your business, but it's also crucial for you to invest in yourself. But how much of your income should you spend on these investments?

The truth is that the answer depends on your personal circumstances and goals. But it can be helpful to think about the different kinds of investments that you're making into yourself and your relationships:

  • Investing in yourself means taking a step back from work and asking yourself what else needs improvement—whether that's learning more about social media or taking time out of each day for mindfulness exercises. You may even find that some aspects of being an entrepreneur require others' expertise, so don't be afraid to ask for help when needed! There aren't many people who would turn down an opportunity to learn something new or improve their skillset; this doesn't just apply when starting businesses either—it applies no matter where we are within our careers as well!

  • Investing in relationships means building stronger bonds with those around us (both professionally and personally). In particular, investing time into helping others grow means we too will benefit from their success; this can come through coaching programs such as The ELEVATE Method.

  • In addition I always say integration over information.

Information is great but it can only get you so far

    Integration is what you need.

When I began my business I Googled and YouTubed everything and I got a lot of information, but I had no clue what to do with it.

Later on I joined a coaching program and while it was stocked full of information, upon being certified I had no clue what to do with it

    Can you relate?

I wish this was a one off, but many coaching programs present in this same way

Information overload to check a proverbial box.

But I am here to change the game. This is why when I created the ELEVATE Method I was very intentional about making sure I created it with the tools you need to succeed.

Through this program you will build a comprehensive toolbox of different modalities that you can use to facilitate amazing transformations with your clients. In addition you will have an insane level of support to help you see your vision through. This includes

    -Monthly Q&A Time

So if you’re done with all of the information and you’re ready to integrate to create the transformation you desire and deserve here is where you need to be.

Do not trade time for money

In the world of coaching, there's a lot of talking about money and charging more. I've met coaches who don't charge much at all and many who charge a lot! But what I haven't seen are people who are afraid to charge anything at all—like a dollar per hour or even just $10 per session.

It's like they're afraid that if they do this, they'll be devalued as people or their services will no longer be valued in other industries.

I want to challenge all coaches out there: you should never trade your time for money unless it takes you less than an hour each week to provide value to your clients. If it does, then great! But if not, don't let fear get in the way of being paid what your work is worth (which comes from how much value you bring).

The coaching journey never ends.

The coaching journey never ends.

  • You can always learn more, and you should always be learning more.

  • Coaching is a process of personal growth or development; the goal is to grow as a person and change your life in positive ways.

Anyone can be a coach, but only good coaches create transformation

Coaching is a skill that can be learned. Anyone can be a coach, but only good coaches create transformation.

A coach is someone who helps you see the bigger picture and helps you achieve your goals by empowering you to take charge of your own life. If someone tells you what to do, they are not coaching you—they are instructing you. Changing people's lives requires more than just telling them what to do; it requires being able to see where they're at right now and helping them understand how they got there. It also requires understanding them as individuals so that their needs are met in ways that connect with them personally rather than simply following a template or one-size-fits-all approach!

If you're considering perfecting your craft I would love to share a YouTube video where I talk about how becoming certified changed my life!
