How to be Consistent with Your Goals

I am sure you can relate to this you set a goal to get your podcast going, recorded one episode and then nothing from there ....

Or maybe you said you were ready to lose the extra pounds. You felt extra committed and began going to the gym consistently for a two weeks and then wham life gets in the way

Why is it that you have big goals but don’t seem to be able to actually meet them?

Going after your goals is not a one and done, not if you want to accomplish it anyways. It’s a process that requires you to call out what you want and take action...CONSISTENTLY !

If you want to lose weight you have to consistently go to the gym.

If you desire to have a blog you have to consistently write.

If you want to have a secure savings account you have to consistently save.

If you desire to have success with your goals it requires the same thing .....consistency.

Consistency is mandatory in order to make progress and is required for success.

Here are 5 ways you can increase your consistency:

  1. Determine your why.

If you expect to be motivated all the time that’s unrealistic. Motivation fades with time. Think about it when you first set a goal you feel super pumped and motivated and then when the going gets tough then we lose motivation. This is why having a strong why is imperative. If you have a strong why it will always help you to make room for the how. For example if you know that getting a new job will raise your income which will help your family out tremendously then even when the going gets tough you will wake up and apply for the job because your how is bigger than your emotions in the situation.

  2. Keep your “why nots” in mind.

Meaning you should identify why you should not give up. I even challenge you to make a list. This is a great tool because when you’re frustrated or wanting to give up this list will remind you why you have to keep pressing forward. You have to stop making your goals optional. In the same way you likely don’t want to cook dinner every night but you know you have to eat you just do it....so just do it!

  3. Layout your plan.

If you are driving somewhere new would you do that without a map? Would you aim for a target you couldn’t see? So why set a goal without clearly defining it and creating a plan to get there? In order to do that you have to call out and identify the goal for what it is.

  4. Take action.

You could have the greatest goal of all time, but without taking action you may will achieve it. Think about it like this..... if you say you are working on losing 20lbs and then you get a bowl of ice cream that defeats the purpose. Identify what action needs to happen and do it!

  5. Give yourself grace by being realistic.

Going after your goals isn’t always a smooth ride. So instead of paying out a plan and expecting it to be perfect identify your goal write it in permanent market and write your steps in pencil. Meaning you always have the same goal but you’re willing to make edits, and adjustments to get there. Remember there is no such thing as perfectionism and as long as you’re giving yourself grace and doing your best that what matters.

We know that consistency is important but a lot of times we don’t know how to access it. This is why I shared the tools you need to make it a regular practice. The good thing is once you learn this you can and should apply consistency to every area of your life.

So now that you’re learning these tools what can you commit to in order to increase your consistency and ultimately your success with your goals?
