How to Identify Limiting Beliefs

If you think back to your childhood you can likely recall times where you had big dreams, were super creative and fearless. Sadly somewhere along the lines of growing up we quieted that part of ourselves. This happens quite often as a result of us being introduced to the reality of who we should or shouldn't be and what we should or shouldn't do.

These experiences likely create limiting beliefs which we begin to reinforce through making decisions from this place. It is imperative that you follow some rules and limitations for safety etc. but you should not be limiting yourself to the point that it is costing you your life and dreams.

So today I want to talk about how you can tell if you have limiting beliefs but more importantly how to break free of them The first step in the process of uprooting limiting beliefs is to identify them. There are two ways to identify limiting beliefs:

1. Write down all of your beliefs. Identify which beliefs you feel strongly about and then write them all down. Now take a moment and highlight or circle which ones help you and move you in the direction of your dreams?

2.Write down areas where you feel most challenged. If you’ve noticed that you have recurring challenges in certain areas of your life, this could be a result of your limiting beliefs. As you review your challenges identify the beliefs you have around them. For example if you notice you're having money problems check in with yourself to see what your beliefs about money are. They likely are closely related to the same problems you’re having.Understand that this is not a coincidence. Our life is a reflection of our thoughts. So if you want to change your life truly you must change your thoughts.

After you have identified where you have limiting beliefs the next step is to uproot the belief all together. You can do this by affirming yourself. Affirmations allow you to replace negative statements you say passively and believe with positive ones that serve you. There is also an NLP technique that I use called TIME. It creates a lasting and massive shift in your belief rapidly. And in turn it allows you to create expansive phrases that allow you to expand your life.
